Waccamaw Youth Center Needs Your Help!

Apr 20

As of January 2010, the Center received a dramatic rate cut in our state funding.  Previously, in 2009, we were receiving $87 per day per child which is just enough to cover 75% of our expenses.  Since the start of the new year, we have been dealing with a reduction of $73!!!  Operating with a reimbursement of only $14 a day is very difficult and it has put the Center in a very tough financial crunch.  The good news is that our renewal is underway for state contract and we should hear in the next two weeks on our expected funding for the second half of the year.  Even though we are optimistic in regards to the contract, we are still faced with a major gap of funding for the months of January through May.

With that being said, I hope that you understand my plea for help.  Our Starfish Ball is this Saturday, April 24 at Seafare Restaurant from  7-11PM.  It is a reverse raffle with a cash prize of $3,000 and will also feature an all you can eat seafood buffet, open bar, prizes, tastings, and much MORE!!  Tickets are $100 per couple/$50 per person.  Even if you cannot attend, it is my hope that you will consider donating to our cause in any amount.  Did you know that $10 provides milk for one day at WYC? No matter what you can offer, it is appreciated!!  This event (Starfish Ball) is critical to our well being and we need YOUR support now more than ever.  I would be happy to drop by and deliver tickets or pick up donations if your’e interested.  Tickets will also be available at the door.

I appreciate your support and hope that our community will come together to enable us to continue providing “a place to call home” to the boys in need.  God Bless You!!!
