CITY OF CONWAY TO HOST RE-FRIED BLUES BAND DURING INAUGURAL CONWAY CRAWL, JUNE 3, 8 P.M.

May 26

The City of Conway will host the Re-Fried Blues Band during the inaugural Conway Crawl on Thursday, June 3, at 8 p.m. The concert will be held along Third Avenue between Main and Laurel streets. The Conway Crawl is a venture of the Conway Tourism Committee, made of representatives of the City of Conway, Conway Main Street USA, and the Conway Chamber of Commerce, to promote extended business hours within the historic district on Thursday evenings. The committee meets regularly to brainstorm and coordinate promotions and infrastructure that positively contribute to Conway’s overall visitor experience.

During the Thursday evenings, Conway merchants will be offer in-store promotions, such as tastings, demonstrations, and night-owl sales, all providing evening shoppers with unique reasons to visit Conway and join the fun. Additionally, River Memories Boat Tours will offer special evening tours.

“But the message here is that we’re more than just a festival. Conway offers a very unique shopping and dining experience. The fact that we have a beautiful Riverwalk and historical sites add the icing to the cake. Conway offers top-shelf customer service and there’s nothing better than doing business with people you know and people you like.

The Re-Fried Blues is a musical project centered on playing songs by the masters of the blues genre. The band consists of Keith Patterson, lead guitar; Rick Oliver, bass guitar; John Taylor, drums; and Michael Markevich, vocals.

More information about the Conway Crawl, as well as the performance by the Re-Fried Blues Band, is available by calling (843) 248-2273.

CANCER SURVIVOR RECOGNITION AND LUMINARIA CEREMONY

May 18

CONWAY -  Walkers will go around the clock in the battle against cancer when the 2010 American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Conway/Aynor gets underway with teams of residents gathering at the Bay Village Mini Mall on May 21 at 7 p.m.

Relay For Life events are held overnight as individuals and teams camp out at an athletic track, park or other gathering area, with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track or pathway at all times throughout the evening. Teams do most of their fundraising prior to the event, but some teams also hold creative fundraisers at their camp sites during Relay. Relay brings together friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools, faith-based groups . . . people from all walks of life - all aimed at furthering the American Cancer Society’s efforts to save lives by helping people stay well, by helping them get well, by finding cures and by fighting back.

Here are just two great events during the 12-hour event:

7 p.m. Friday – Cancer Survivor Recognition

Cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer) from the Conway/Aynor area are invited to walk the first lap of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life to CELEBRATE their victory over cancer. The event and Survivors Lap will be held at Bay Village Mini Mall. Families are welcome to attend.

 10 p.m. Friday – Luminaria Ceremony

The American Cancer Society will conduct their Relay For Life special Luminaria Ceremony to REMEMBER those touched by cancer in Conway/Aynor. Individuals or companies can make contributions in memory of those who have lost their fight with cancer and in honor of those who have survived. Each will be recognized with a lighted luminaria displayed at the Relay For Life event. To hold down the Luminaria bags the Relay For Life of Conway/Aynor will be collecting canned food items from team members. Please bring a can of food if you can!
