Grand Strand Tech. Council Report

Grand Strand Technology Council
Report on June 2010 Special Meeting
“Oil Spill 101 – What the Grand Strand Needs to Know”
On June 24 more than 95 members and guests of the Grand Strand Technology Council heard two Coastal Carolina University professors talk about the “remotely” possible impact of the Gulf oil spill disaster on local beaches and marshes on the Atlantic Coastal waters of Horry and Georgetown counties. Speaking at a conference at the Conference Center at Horry-Georgetown Technical College Grand Strand Campus Thursday night, June 24, Dr. Louis Keiner, talked about “Ocean Currents and Modeling,” and Dr. Jim Luken, spoke on “Wetlands Ecology.” In summary, the speakers expect the effects along the Grand Strand to be “minimal.” The meeting received wide coverage by regional media organizations such as The SunNews, Georgetown Times, Myrtle Beach Herald, Alternatives, Coast Magazine, WBTW Channel 13, and WMBF Channel 10.
We are pleased to refer you to an excellent summary report as prepared by Lloyd Mackall for the Georgetown Times. You may link to this article at the Council’s website:
