Volunteers Still Needed for Community Built Playground

Aug 27

In just five weeks the first ever community built playground in Horry County will be underway. Palmetto Adventure Land will be constructed from September 21 – 26, and Horry County is asking the community to assist in the assembling of the playground and will need hundreds of volunteers to come together on an empty piece of land, in less than one week, to build the best playground on the coast! Skilled or not skilled, your assistance is needed.

The playground was designed by students at Carolina Forest and Ocean Bays Elementary Schools and assisted in the naming of the playground and helped provide the artwork throughout the playground. This one-of-a-kind project will include a boat, submarine, wave façade, a music area, swings, slides, monkey bars, games, picnic tables, a park and much, much more.

Palmetto Adventure Land will be located in the Carolina Forest area on Carolina Forest Boulevard and will be located beside the future Carolina Forest Library and the Carolina Forest Recreation Center. The playground will be free to the public and will be available for all families throughout our county. The project was inspired through funding secured by Senator Luke Rankin in the amount of $300,000.

Play is child’s work. Children learn, grow and develop though play; improving their physical, cognitive, and social skills. Nowhere is more evident than the neighborhood playground. The playground equipment is designed to provide opportunities for children of all abilities to experience sensory-rich play. All children can play together with their peers, neighbors and family and will be handicap accessible.

If you, your business, Home Owners Association, neighborhood, church, or organization would like to volunteer to help build Palmetto Adventure Land, please contact Horry County Parks & Recreation at 915-5330. Horry County will need about 175 volunteers each day to make this playground a reality!!!

Various sponsorship packages are also available to include an Adopt-A-Component where your name can be located on various components of the playground. Pricing starts at $30 to $2,500. Sponsorship packages are attached and for more information, please contact Horry County Parks & Recreation at 915-5330. Palmetto Adventure Land… imagined by kids and built by volunteers!

Sponsors include the United Way of Horry County, Carolina Forest Rotary Club, Avalon at Carolina Forest, HTC, Carolina Forest Chronicle, WBTW News 13, WMBF News, WPDE NewsChannel 15, WWMB CW 21, Custom Homes of Old World Contracting, Inc., Tony McAfee State Farm, Carolina Forest Lions Club, Chick-fil-A at Carolina Forest, The Donut Man, Atlantic Merchant Services, Alta Surf Apartments, and Gary’s Pumping Service.
